Introduction to Training

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) is where it all begins.

Whether you are looking for motorcycle training from CBT to advanced rider training, or your first purchase of a moped to your dream motorcycle – we can help.

  or Call 020 8326 3366

Our unique service is designed to make the experience of getting onto two wheels as easy and hassle free as possible. We can provide everything - from helping you choose the right motorbike, scooter or moped, to insurance, clothing, accessories and training. If you should require finance for the motorcycle of your choice, then we can provide that too.

Training is provided via our own schools Get Bike Training and Girls Angels. From Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) to Direct Access Scheme (DAS).

We can also help if you are returning to motorcycling with a Back to Biking course.

If you are new to motorcycle / scooter riding, the guides in our Information section should answer most of your questions about how to get started and what has to be done. We are always looking to improve our service, so if there is anything we haven't covered in this site, please contact us with your suggestions!

NOTE: Before you can begin motorcycling or commence formal training, such as Compulsory Basic Training (CBT training), Theory Test, or take a Practical Test such as A2 Standard or Direct Access (DAS) you must hold at least a current and valid UK Provisional Motorcycle Licence.

An application for a UK Driving Licence form (D1) can be obtained from a main Post Office. The correct spelling is motorcycle licence, not motorcycle license.

To get a full motorcycle licence - there are three steps to follow:

  1. Compulsory Basic Training. (CBT) is training only and not a test.
  2. Theory Test.
  3. Practical Test - for:
    • Moped Test – a moped must not exceeding 50cc, and not capable of travelling faster than 50KPH.
    • A1 Light is taken on a motorcycle which is more than 75cc but less than 125cc and has a top speed rating of less than 100KPH.
    • A2 Standard Test is taken on a 125cc bike which must be rated to travel faster than 100KPH. This grade of pass will have a two year restriction to ride bikes not exceeding 33BHP. After two years it automatically becomes an unrestricted licence.
    • DAS - Direct Access Scheme - Motorcycle Test, Motorbike Test. This test is for anyone over 21 years of age - wishing to avoid the two year restriction. In order to ride any size of motorcycle or motorbike straight away on a full unrestricted motorcycle licence.

Anyone over 16 years of age with a current valid UK Provisional Licence can take the CBT course, which is intended to be completed in one day. At the end of the CBT course, provided a satisfactory standard has been reached, a CBT certificate (DL196) will be issued.
